PIDS – Module 3

Course Overview

Designing & Engineering PIDS Using CAD Drawings and Site Planning

This course focuses on the design and engineering phase of Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS), emphasizing the use of CAD drawings, floor plans, and engineering best practices to create accurate, scalable, and reliable perimeter security solutions.

Participants will learn how to interpret architectural drawings, identify perimeter and critical zones, and correctly position sensors, control panels, power supplies, and communication infrastructure. The course highlights design accuracy, coverage optimization, environmental considerations, and future scalability, ensuring successful implementation with minimal rework.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand CAD fundamentals and their role in intrusion detection system design
  • Read and interpret commercial and critical infrastructure floor plans
  • Identify perimeter, interior, and critical security zones
  • Design accurate sensor placement for PIRs, vibration sensors, door contacts, and panic devices
  • Plan control panel, PSU, and server locations for reliability and maintenance access
  • Design cable routing, power distribution, and communication architecture
  • Apply engineering best practices to avoid common design and installation pitfalls
