PIDS – Module 2

Course Overview

Physical Installation & Basic Troubleshooting of Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS)

This course focuses on the practical, field-level installation and troubleshooting of Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS). It equips learners with hands-on knowledge required to correctly install perimeter security devices, select appropriate cabling and power methods, configure zones and partitions, and systematically diagnose and resolve common system issues.

Participants will learn how to apply best installation practices, ensure compliance with safety and electrical codes, minimize false alarms, and maintain reliable perimeter detection in real-world environments. The course emphasizes technician-ready skills that improve installation quality, reduce service callbacks, and enhance long-term system performance.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify and safely use essential installation tools and protective equipment for PIDS projects
  • Select appropriate cable types, wire gauges, and communication methods for sensors and control panels
  • Understand basic PIDS terminology, including zones, partitions, user codes, and alarm actions
  • Implement powering methods such as transformers, battery backup, PoE, and solar solutions
  • Configure zone types, partitions, arming modes, and user codes correctly
  • Integrate PIDS with CMS platforms, mobile apps, and CCTV systems
  • Diagnose and resolve common PIDS issues, including false alarms, communication loss, power failures, RF interference, and programming errors
  • Apply installation best practices, environmental considerations, grounding, and code compliance requirements
  • Perform testing, commissioning, and customer handover procedures professionally
