Basic of CCTV – Module 2

Module Overview: Physical Installation and Basic Troubleshooting

This module shifts from planning to the field, focusing on the hands-on skills required to install, power, and maintain a CCTV system. The goal is to ensure every installation is durable, secure, and easy to fix if issues arise.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Identify the essential tools and safety equipment needed for field installations.
  • Master the physical mounting of cameras and the secure routing of cables.
  • Understand power requirements, including PoE and DC power supplies.
  • Diagnose and resolve common system faults using a structured troubleshooting approach.

Here are the key areas we will explore:

  • The Installer’s Toolkit: We’ll look at the “must-have” tools, from cable strippers and crimpers to BNC/network testers, and the safety gear required for site work.
  • Mounting & Cable Management: We’ll cover the best practices for mounting cameras on different surfaces and how to use conduits and junction boxes to protect wiring from weather and tampering.
  • Power & Connectivity: We’ll explain how to calculate power loads and the difference between powering cameras via PoE (Power over Ethernet) versus local DC adapters.
  • Connectivity Standards: You’ll learn the correct way to terminate cables (RJ45 for IP, BNC for Analog) to ensure high-quality video signals without loss.
  • Troubleshooting Framework: We will explore a step-by-step guide to fixing common issues like “No Video Signal,” blurry images, or night vision failure.

This module provides the practical, “boots-on-the-ground” knowledge needed to turn a design into a fully functioning, reliable security system.
