Designing & Engineering Access Control Systems (CAD Drawings & Device Placement)

This course focuses on the design and engineering phase of Physical Access Control Systems, with a strong emphasis on CAD drawings, floor plan interpretation, device placement, and panel/server engineering best practices. It equips learners with the skills required to translate security requirements into accurate, scalable, and installation-ready access control designs.

Participants will learn how to read and analyze commercial floor plans, understand CAD symbols and scale, identify security zones, and correctly position access control devices such as readers, locks, sensors, control panels, and servers. The course emphasizes design accuracy, compliance, usability, and future scalability to ensure successful system deployment with minimal rework.

• Read and interpret commercial floor plans, including scale, dimensions, and room functions

• Design proper access control panel and server placement with security and maintenance considerations
• Plan cable routing, power distribution, and system expansion during the design stage
