Access Control System – Module 2

Course Overview

Physical Installation and Basic Troubleshooting of Access Control Systems

This course focuses on the practical installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Physical Access Control Systems (ACS). It is designed to bridge the gap between theory and field implementation, equipping learners with the hands-on knowledge required to deploy, configure, and maintain reliable access control solutions in real-world environments.

Participants will gain a deep understanding of installation tools, cabling, power distribution, communication protocols, controller and reader setup, credential management, and biometric configuration. The course also emphasizes structured troubleshooting techniques to identify, diagnose, and resolve common access control system issues efficiently.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify and safely use essential tools and protective equipment for access control installation
  • Understand powering methods, including centralized power, distributed power, PoE, and battery backup systems
  • Select and install correct cable types for power and communication
  • Configure controllers, readers, credentials, biometric devices, inputs, and outputs
  • Implement advanced security features such as anti-passback, dual door interlock, and duress alarms
  • Map users, credentials, access levels, and time schedules correctly
