Basic of CCTV – Module 4

Overview: CCTV Product Selection

This module focuses on the strategic choice of hardware to meet specific security goals. The objective is to move beyond brand names and select products based on technical performance, compatibility, and site requirements.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Choose the right camera and recording hardware based on site-specific needs.
  • Compare different brands and technologies to ensure system compatibility.
  • Balance technical specifications with budget constraints to provide the best value.

Here are the key areas we will explore:

  • Camera Selection Criteria: We’ll look at matching camera types (Dome, Bullet, PTZ) to their environments and selecting the right resolution (2MP, 4MP, 4K) for the required level of detail.
  • Storage & Recording Hardware: We will explain how to select NVRs and DVRs based on channel capacity, hard drive bays, and incoming bandwidth limits.
  • Transmission & Networking: We’ll cover the selection of PoE switches, injectors, and specialized cables (Cat6 vs. Fiber) to ensure a stable data flow.
  • Brand Ecosystems: We will explore the pros and cons of using major brands like Hikvision, Dahua, and Honeywell, including how to check for ONVIF compatibility across different manufacturers.
  • Environmental Ratings: We’ll look at selecting products with the correct IP (Ingress Protection) and IK (Impact Protection) ratings for harsh or high-risk areas.

This module provides the expert knowledge required to build a high-performance CCTV system by picking the right tools for the job.
